Daan Pareit received a M.Sc. degree (2006) in Electrotechnical Engineering, with ICT as main subject, and a Ph.D. degree (2011) in Computer Science Engineering from Ghent University (UGent, Belgium).

RESEARCH: In August 2006, he joined the Information Technology department (INTEC) of Ghent University. Within this department, he is working at the Internet Based Communication Networks and Services research group (IBCN). As a member of this research group, he is also affiliated with the iMinds research institute. He studied the interworking of heterogeneous wireless networks for moving users, and for trains in particular (e.g. within projects ICON-TRAINS, ICON-TRACK, ICON-RAILS). He was granted a Ph.D scholarship from the Institute for Promotion of Innovation through Science and Technology in Flanders (IWT-Vlaanderen) during 2007-2010 to elaborate this topic. Next, he was involved in starting and managing projects for Future Internet Research Experimentation (FIRE) with cognitive radio usage (FP7 CREW) or for educational purposes (FP7 FORGE).

EDUCATION: Since his first position at the university, he has always been involved in education at Ghent University. Yearly, he had several teaching assignments within the Bachelor/Master of Science programme in Engineering (Computer Science and Electrical Engineering). Moreover, he was elected to serve on different boards and committees on education at the university.
